The World Health Organization (WHO) has decided that the scientific criteria for an influenza pandemic have been met and has therefore raised the level of pandemic alert to phase 6. This is as a result of the rising number of cases of A/H1N1 influenza in several continents.

UVIG member companies and their European colleagues have been preparing for a pandemic for some time, researching new technologies and looking at strategies to maximise production capacity. Companies continue to work with the relevant authorities and national governments to ensure an efficient and effective vaccine response. Vaccine manufacturers have been putting in place the steps needed to develop and produce influenza H1N1 vaccine and are now ready to start H1N1 vaccines production as soon as requested.
